Artists and makers studio space at High House Production Park
High House Production Park (HHPP) and Second Floor Studios warmly invite a professional team to work with them to develop a concept design and feasibility study for a new building at HHPP, a world class centre of excellence for creative industries in Purfleet-on-Thames.
The new building is expected to contain around 90 studios aimed at creative crafts and designer makers such as carpenters, ceramicists, jewellers, stone masons, sculptors and metal workers. The building is expected to be around 45,000 square feet in total and should be cost efficient, have strong environmental credentials and be a positive addition to the production park. The professional team should include the following roles as a minimum
Architect
Cost Consultant
Mechanical and Electrical Engineers
Structural and Civil Engineeers
Any other profession the team believe will be required to deliver the work, which will include:
feasibility study
concept design
cost plan
lifecycle costing
design review and pre-application discussions with Thurrock Council's Planning team
site surveys where required
The team will need to identify a Principal Designer and a lead consultant.
The building will be the latest addition to HHPP, which is home to the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop and Costume Store, The Back Stage Centre, Thurrock Music Hub and ACME Artists Studios. For further information, go to High House Production Park.
Second Floor Studios was established in 1997 to provide affordable, long-term, high-quality workspaces for visual artists, craft and designer makers. Operating 4 studio sites in London and Kent, Second Floor intends to create a new studio aimed at makers and some of the heavier creative practices. For further information, go to Second Floor Studios.
The concept design and feasibility study are funded by the Creative Estuary Programme, which aims to drive forward creative and economic evolution in the Thames Estuary. HHPP has been identified as one of 2 pilot schemes for the development of affordable creative workspace. For further information, go to Creative Estuary.
The procurement will be run in 2 stages:
Stage 1 is an expression of interest exercise, after which 3 organisations will be invited to submit a full tender – all parties are keen to support new smaller creative architectural practices and the 3 shortlisted organisations will all be awarded a small payment to contribute to the costs of putting together the full tender
stage 2 is the full tender exercise
The contract for the initial Feasibility work will be between HHPP and the organisation appointed through this procurement process. HHPP, Second Floor Studios and Creative Estuary will form a client group to oversee the work.
The deadline to submit an expression of interest is midnight on Sunday 5 September 2021.
