Launching the first SFSA Textiles Open

Many of our friends of the studios and the gallery have asked us to consider a textiles open, we have listened and this summer bring you the Textiles Open.

2024 event now closed. Thanks to everyone who took part and visited the exhibition.

Artist Information and Key Dates:

  • Open to all artists with a fibre and thread based practice. (including but not exclusively sewing, embroidery, lace work, quilting, beading, non functional fashion, dying and surface design).

  • All enquiries, registration and questions by email to Hannah.cushion@secondfloor.co.uk after the launch date.

  • Registration Tuesday NOW CLOSED - To register please email Hannah:

    • Full name and artist name (if different).

    • Expression of interest detailing 100cm category or 50cm category.

    • Confirm you can make the drop off and pick up dates.

    • The first 20 / 30 artists to register for each category will be accepted - 50 artists in total with one submission over both categories.

    • Curated category - large scale works - same as above to Hannah - name, category, confirmation on dates.

  • Payment deadline 30th April

  • Image and Paperwork submission deadline 31st May (all categories)

  • Work drop off Monday 15th July
    10:00 to 18:00. no format Gallery, Moulding Lane (off Arklow Road), Deptford.

  • Work pick up 29th July
    10:00 to 18:00. no format Gallery, Moulding Lane (off Arklow Road), Deptford.

Artist Information, Participation Guidelines:

  • Year One will be a learning year for submission sizing and display considerations. There are two open categories for the involvement of 50 artists. Each artist can submit ONE piece in either category:

    • Pieces / objects up to 100 x 100cm, up to 20 submissions can be accepted. Fee £30.

    • Pieces / Objects up to 50 x 50cm, up to 30 submissions can be accepted. Fee £24.

      These sizes are approximate and can have a 3D consideration also, the anticipation is that not all items will be flat 2D objects.

  • Curated Category - 5 large pieces to be curated by SFSA, please make your submission for inclusion (this can be in addition to the smaller size categories) Decision mid June. If your piece is selected the submission fee is an additional £36.

  • Artists from London and the local counties are warmly welcomed to participate. One submission per artist

  • Each submission to arrive with a pre agreed method of display:

    • ‘Hanging system ready’ for speed of installation. If the work is framed please affix cord on the back, fitted one quarter below the top of the work.

    • Limited plinth availability for display.

    • Suspended work possible.

  • no commission on sales

  • Please only participate if you can make the work drop off and pick up dates, thanks. Any work not retrieved three months after show closure may be given away or disposed of.

  • Postal returns are not possible, sorry.
