Closure of no format Gallery.
After over five successful years located at Casting House, Deptford, Second Floor Studios and Arts (SFSA) will close its Gallery, end of December 2024. Since first opening in Woolwich 2011, the gallery has been a vital hub for artists and makers, playing a crucial role in their creative process.
Over the past thirteen years, the gallery has hosted hundreds of exhibitions, including the SFSA Opens. The gallery has provided a platform for hundreds of artists from around the world, highlighting SFSA’s commitment to inclusive opportunities for creators. These exhibitions have been cherished by the artistic community across London and locally.
The no format Gallery is situated within the wider Deptford studio site, which SFSA purchased on a 250-year leasehold. However, rising living costs, persistent high interest rates and the financial strain of continuing to subsidise the gallery have lead SFSA to make the difficult decision to close the gallery. This closure will allow the creation of two new ground floor studios.
The SFSA team is deeply grateful to all the artists, exhibitions, and visitors who have made no format a vibrant part of the community. While the closure is a significant loss, SFSA remains committed to providing affordable workspace through expansion at Wembley Park and with two new buildings in development (SE London TBA). Once economic conditions improve, SFSA hopes to reopen no format Gallery. In the meantime, SFSA encourages studio members and friends of the gallery to stay connected through the exhibition programme at Wembley Park, opening 2025.
